As a part e-Governance initiatives, many of the State Government departments have computerized their activities using either a centralized or decentralized IT architecture. Where the departments have gone in for a centralized architecture, they have hosted their applications and data at the Karnataka State Data Center (SDC) in Bangalore and setup their own network infrastructure for data transfer between the SDC and the departmental offices. Other departments which have decided to decentralize their IT infrastructure have localized applications and data at various departmental offices throughout the state.
The KSWAN shall serve both of the above types of architectures by,
Integrating the existing departmental networks (for centralized projects) such as Khajane and Kaveri (earlier) with the KSWAN backbone at the state level.
By providing a network backbone for the decentralized projects as a first step to migrate them to a centralized architecture for better hosting (at the SDC), security and availability of their applications such as Bhoomi and VAHAN SARATHI (earlier).
