An Engineering Graduate turned Politician, Shri.P.G.R. Sindhia is a household name in Karnataka. Born to a family of Warriors, he continues for fight for social justice and communal amity, no matter whether he is in the ruling party of in the opposition.
He was born at Doddamaralawadi, a village in Kanakapura taluk, adjoining Bangalore on 19th September 1949. His ancestors were valiant warriors in the service of Maharajas of Mysore held senior positions in then King’s army and won the appreciation of the Mysore Kings.
Mr. Sindhia had his preliminary education in his village and higher education in Bangalore and obtained a degree in Civil Engineering from a prestigious R.V.Engineering College, Bangalore. Exhibiting leadership qualities during his college days, he was the President of the Bangalore University Students' Council during 1972-78 and Secretary of ABVP. . It was at this juncture he came in contact with the political leaders of national stature. He was instrumental in organising Lokanayak Jayaprakash Narayan's movement in Karnataka, popularly known as 'JP Movement'.
Because of such political initiatives he was imprisoned for 20 months during the Emergency. During his prison days he came in direct contact with the national leaders like Sri. Atal Bihari Vajapayee, Prof. Madhu Dandavate, Sri. Ramakrishna Hegde, Sri.S.N. Mishra, Sri.J.H. Patel, Sri H.D. Devegowda and others in the Bangalore Central Jail. He was the President of Yuva Janata in 1977 and General Secretary of State Janata Party in 1978. He had the good fortune of working with Sri Morarji Desai, Babu Jagajivan Ram,H.N. Bahuguna, Madhu Dandavate, S.N. Mishra, Ram Dhan, Choudhari Charan Singh, Rajnarain, Karpoori Takoor and other national leaders during 1977-1980.
A refreshed young man, Mr. Sindhia got himself involved in rural reconstruction works in his native Kanakapura Taluk even while teaching in an engineering college. After two years he has up teaching and devoted all his time for rural activities. He became popular among the masses because of his dedicated social work, humility and friendliness towards one and all.
He was elected as a member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly in 1983 and became Minister for Health and Family Welfare in the cabinet headed by Sri. Ramakrishna Hegde. Later, he was also the Minister for Irrigation.During his period, Jayadeva Inst.of Cardiology &, Sanjay Gandhi Hospital have start functioning and Karnataka was able to get the IPP (India Population project ) of the Govt.of India.
Mr. Sindhia's popularity is such that his voters never failed him even once since 1983. Getting elected six times from Kanakapura Constituency he was Minister under 5 Chief Ministers like Sri. Ramakrishna Hegde, Sri.H.D. Deve Gowda, Sri.S.R. Bommai, Sri.J.H. Patel and Sri. Dharmsingh. He held important portfolios like Social Welfare, Transport, Industries, Infrastructure and Finance. As Min.for Transport, his achievements are remarkable. He created 4 divisions for KSRTC and thus saved the organisation from loss. As Home Minister, he fought for curbing communal forces and anti-social elements and he was responsible for resolving the long pending Edgah Ground issue in Hubli. The International Airport work has commenced when he was the Industries Minister. He also brought ONGC project and Investors to Karnataka .
When not in the ruling party, he ably conducted himself as a floor leader of the Opposition in Karnataka Assembly.
An erudite speaker and an endearing leader, Mr. Sindhia is always in demand to resolve social and industrial disputes. As Home Minister he played a pivotal role in solving The Edga Maidan dispute at Hubli. As Transport Minister he ably managed the State Transport undertaking and implemented the Sindhia Committee report. Because of his vision and efforts the KSRTC is proved to be one of the best in the Country.
By heading various ministries and by studying various social ventures Mr. Sindhia has acquired vast knowledge in many fields. He has visited many countries including the USA, UK, the erstwhile USSR, the Philippines, Germany, Sweden, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Australia, Nepal, Cuba and China.

Mohan is the Chairperson of the Board of Manipal Global Education Services Private Limited. He has co-founded AARIN Capital with the intention of funding operational support in Technology, Ecommerce, Health Care and Life Science. In addition, Aarin has helped start 10 VC funds in various asset classes over the last 3 years. He is based out of Bangalore, India. Mohan actively interfaces with key leadership at Indian regulators to improve the business ecosystem. His areas of focus are Education, Information Technology (“IT”) and Human Resource Development aimed at improving the quality of education and availability of skilled human capital in the Country.
Mohan was a Trustee of the International Financial Reporting Standards (“IFRS”) Foundation, the body that oversees the International Accounting Standards Board (“IASB”), for nearly six years now. Mohan was a Member of the Dr. Anil Kakodkar Committee on Autonomy for the IITs and the Karnataka Knowledge Commission. He was a Member on the Boards of IIT – Bhubaneswar and IIT, Hyderabad. Mohan was a Member of the Kelkar Committee, constituted by the Ministry of Finance, Government of India, to reform direct tax regulations. He was also a Member of the Non-Resident Taxation Committee, the High-Powered Committee on e-Commerce and Taxation, and the Empowered Committee for setting up the Country’s Tax Information Network.
He was awarded the Padma Shri by the President of India in 2015, and the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award in 2004. He had served on the Board of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and is currently the Chairman of SEBI Primary Markets Advisory Committee. He is now on the Board of National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE) and Havells India Limited.
Until mid-2011, Mohan was a Member of the Board at Infosys Limited, Bangalore. Mohan joined Infosys in 1994 and was elevated to a Member of the Board in 2000. He was Infosys’s CFO from 1994 to 2006. In 2006, he voluntarily relinquished the role to lead Human Resources and Education & Research. In June 2011, Mohan stepped out of Infosys to pursue his other long-standing passion - higher education for human development. At Infosys, Mohan led the first listing of an India-registered company on the NASDAQ and the first sponsored secondary offering of American Depositary Shares by an Indian company. Mohan was an early adopter of US Sarbanes Oxley regulations, considered the world’s most demanding requirements on corporate governance. Infosys was among the first corporations outside of the United States of America to comply with this regulation.
Mohan has a keen interest in human development through education such as illiteracy eradication through the promotion of primary education. In 2000, he along with certain other philanthropists set up the Akshaya Patra Foundation, Bangalore - a mid-day meal program for school going children. Today, the mid-day meal program feeds over 1.5 million children each day in 11,000 government schools across 10 Indian states. This program aims to feed 5 million children each day by 2020. Mohan continues to make substantial personal contributions to the program. This initiative has become the largest mid-day meal program in the world. Mohan holds a bachelor’s degree in commerce from St. Joseph’s College of Commerce, Bangalore, and a bachelor’s degree in law (LLB) from Bangalore University. He is also a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.

M.R.S. Rao was born on 21st January 1948 in Mysore, Karnataka. He obtained B.Sc and M.Sc degree from Bangalore University. He received his Ph.D degree from IISc. Subsequently he went to Baylor College of Medicine, USA for his postdoctoral work during 1974-78. He was an Assistant Professor during 1977-78 before returning to India.On returning to India, he joined the Faculty of the Department of Biochemistry, IISc, where he built an active school of Chromatin biology. He has made very original and insightful contributions on the role of histone and their variants in modulating chromatin structure to facilitate important biological processes. He was the Chairman of the Department of Biochemistry during 1998-2003. In the year 2003, he was invited to take up the position of President of Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research. He has authored over 150 publications and has mentored 30 Ph.D students and several postdoctoral fellows. His research interests include Chromatin structure & function, Meiotic recombination & repair, cancer genetics and RNA biology.Prof. Rao has been a Member/Chairman of several national and international committees. He was chairman of the Research Council of CCMB, Hyderabad and IICB, Kolkata. He was also the Chairman of the DBT Task Force on Human Genetics and Genomic Analysis. He was the first Chairman of the Board of Governors of IISER, Trivandrum. He is a member of Science and Engineering Research Board. Prof. Rao is a Fellow of The Indian National Science Academy, Indian Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Medical Sciences and The World Academy of Sciences (Italy). He holds a PhD from Cornell University, AeE and MS degrees from Caltech, MBA from Rider and BE from the University of Mysore. He holds twelve US patents and is an author of several books on history and culture. In 1978 he was elected MLA from Tumkur. Currently, he is a director of the World Organization for Resource Development and Education in Washington, DC and Chairman of the Delixus group focusing on Cyber Security and Big Data Analytics. Dr. Ahmed’s scientific career spans over forty years. He worked on solid propellant rocket fuels at Caltech and JPL (61-63), NASA Apollo moon landing project at the Marshall Space Flight Center (64-65), advanced composite structures (67-77) at Princeton, and manufacturing technologies at Western Electric. He was a Project Manager on the NASA Hubble Space Telescope (79-82) and Program Manager on LWIR airborne and space-based sensors (82-90) as well as pilot ejection systems (97-98). While he was working in an undergraduate institution, he established SOFA – Student Orators’ Forum of Action in 1975 to train students in leadership and public speaking.For developing teachers as Facilitators, in 1986, he converted SOFA into IID – Institute of Individual Development and started Facilitator Certification in HRD course. 117 batches of F.C. in HRD have already been conducted till March 2013.In need of a regular learning and development centre, he left teaching in 1992 and started ‘FEEL’ – Facilitating Excellence in Effective Leadership as a brand after converting IID into AIM INSIGHTS – Academy for Intense Motivation for Identifying Natural Skills, Independent Growth, Humane Thoughts and Strategies.He started BHRD as a graduate programme offered by College for Leadership and HRD which was established as a unit of AIM INSIGHTS in 1999 and BHRD as a Composite Graduate Programme is being offered in different colleges since then.His first action research was on a definition of Human Resource which he did in a period of ten years involving more than one lakh people and 500 professors from several universities. Professor G. Padmanaban is the first student of the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru to have become its Director. He contributed significantly to the initiation of recombinant DNA research in the country with his studies on liver cytochrome-P450 gene expression. He has been working with the malaria parasite biology for the last three decades. His group discovered and characterized the heme-biosynthetic pathway and its role in parasite development during the transmission stages. He has shown that curcumin has tremendous potential to treat malaria as an adjunct drug. He has produced over 50 Ph.Ds and published over 150 papers. He continues to be active in research after his formal retirement in 1998. Professor Padmanaban has spent his entire career at IISc, except for his visits to the University of Chicago as a visiting scientist/Professor for over a decade during 1973-1986. He is widely travelled and given lectures at several international meetings. He has played an integral part in the growth of Life Sciences and Biotechnology in the country. He has mentored a generation of students, junior and senior scientists and entrepreneurs. He chairs several technical committees for government S&T establishments. He also chairs the technical committees of BIRAC (Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council), a section 8 company established by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. He is a member of the Vision Group for Biotechnology constituted by the Government of Karnataka. He has received several awards including the civilian awards, Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan.

Dr. Gayatri Saberwal did her PhD in the life sciences at the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad. She then did post-doctoral work at at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University, New York. She has been involved with the Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology (IBAB) since its establishment in 2001, and has had a range of institution-building and administrative responsibilities. In the past, her group has researched the health-related industries, primarily biotech and pharma, in India and abroad. Such studies, both quantitative and qualitative, should prove useful to policy making that is geared to supporting industrial innovation. Currently Dr. Saberwal’s group is focussed on clinical trial registries (around the world). Several of her group’s publications have been in the prestigious journal Nature Biotechnology. In addition, it has had a series of general articles and editorials in Current Science. It hopes that these will contribute to a debate that is vital to producing a knowledge driven industry, itself important to ensure a healthier India.

Professor Sadagopan, Director of IIIT -Bangalore, is an alumnus of Madras University, India and Purdue University, USA. She along with Mr Premkumar Raja established the Nightingales Home Health Services and the Nightingales Medical Trust – two prominent organizations in Bangalore. The projects of the Trust include 3 Dementia Care facilities in Bangalore and Kolar, 3 Dementia Day Care centres and 4 Elders Enrichment Centres, Elders Helpline run in association with Bangalore City Police, 2 Centre for Active Ageing and Jobs 60+ to promote skills and jobs for elders. Dr. Radha is the recipient of Rajyothsava Award and Namma Bengaluru award and under her leadership the Trust was also awarded the Vayoshreshtha Samman Award by the Govt of India for exemplary services to the elderly. She served as a member of the Elders Task Force and the expert committee for planning new schemes for elderly under the Planning Commission. The models of age care and dementia care set up by the Trust are now being replicated all over the country.
